General Rules of Play

  • All play will be in accordance with the rules and the etiquette of golf as approved by the R. & A. Golf Club of St. Andrews and local rules existing at the time of the event.
  • Local rules are printed on score cards and amendments and additions published on the Club�s Notice Board.
  • Members are reminded to attach Club discs to their golf bag as proof of their membership.
  • Members and guests must not, on any pretext whatsoever, cross the western boundary of the Course into adjoining property.
  • Practising on the golf course is strictly prohibited. Any practising must be confined to the recognised practice areas.
  • All official club competitions are to be played from the Medal Tees, unless otherwise directed.
  • Members entering competitions and not turning up are liable to be penalised unless they notify the Starter before the competition.
  • Any member whose name is not on the starting sheet may be allowed to play in a competition should a place become vacant.
  • Preferred lies on the fairway will operate from 1st November until the day before the Captain v Vice-Captain match, unless otherwise directed.
  • For men to obtain a handicap, 3 (three) score cards should be returned indicating �For Handicap� � two cards to be from front tees and one from Medal Tees.
  • For men and junior boys, to retain a handicap � 3 (three) cards must be entered in a season.

STARTING TIMES
The Professional shop is staffed almost every day. Starting times may be booked on the day of play either personally or by telephone 0131 441 1100.

Telephone bookings will be accepted from 8 a.m. for alternate times only and will not be accepted when Major Competitions (those for which prior entry is made on sheets on the Club Notice Board) are taking place or when the tee is otherwise reserved.

Starting times may be booked by telephone, subject to the normal restrictions, on days when Winter Medals are being played. Please note that the tee will be closed half an hour before Team Matches, Club Championship Matches and Ladies Matches.

On occasions when the Professional�s shop is closed and times have been booked, the starting sheet will be placed on the door.

Competitions

All COMPETITIONS, MEDALS AND SPOONS
All competitions will be drawn. Entry Sheets will be posted three weeks prior to events and a draw made one week before.

CHAMPIONSHIP (A and B)
Sixteen lowest scratch scores in each category in June Monthly Spoon and Coronation Cup competitions qualify for Match Play. Finals to be played on 12th June 2011.

Hole and Hole (Summer Singles Competition)
Entries close March 2011

Campbell Bowl
Lowest aggregate of two Handicap scores in Spring, Summer and Autumn Competitions.

George Spence Trophy
Lowest aggregate of two Scratch scores in Spring, Summer and Autumn Competitions.

Woodhall Medal
Lowest aggregate of four Handicap scores in Monthly Spoons.

Bell Cup
Winter Foursomes Competition. Handicap allowance: half the difference of combined handicaps.

Inglis Trophy - (Championship Stroke Play)
Decided on the best aggregate scratch scores in the June Spoon and Coronation Cup. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by a play-off over 18 holes.

Torphin Twenty Golf Club
Torphin Twenty Championship Qualifying round will be played on 10 July 2011. Sixteen lowest scores from Torphin Twenty members to qualify.

Social Events
Will be held during the year.

To comply with Licensing Regulations, members must ensure that guest�s names and addresses are entered in the Visitor�s Book, located in the hall. This does not apply if guests have played golf and had their names recorded by the Club Professional.

LADIES TROPHIES

CHAMPIONSHIP � (MUNRO CUP)
Eight lowest scratch scores in two qualifying rounds qualify for Match Play.

STEY BRAE TROPHY
Lowest aggregate scratch score in two championship qualifying rounds.

MACINNES TROPHY
Lowest aggregate scratch score in Bronze section in Championship qualifying competitions.

In the event of a tie for these trophies, the winner will be decided by a play-off over 18 holes stroke play.

SGLA BROOCH
Handicap winner in Spring competition.

CENTENARY TROPHY
Awarded to the Handicap winner in a competition as indicated on Fixture Card.

JIMMY DUNBAR TROPHY
Handicap winner in Autumn competition.

LGU SILVER AND BRONZE MEDALS
Lowest aggregate of four net scores from medal rounds.

Summer: Saturday & Sunday � no play before 2 p.m.
Wednesday � no play after 4 p.m.
Winter: Saturday & Sunday � no play before noon.

JUNIOR HOURS OF PLAY
Monday - Friday All day up to 5.00 p.m. and after 7.00 p.m.
Saturday After 12.30 p.m.
(Winter after 2.00 p.m.)
Sunday After 12.30 p.m.
(Winter after 12 noon)

 

DRESS RULES
CLUBHOUSE AND COURSE

  • Members and guests must be smartly attired.
  • Collarless shirts are not permitted in the Clubhouse or on the Course
  • Football colours must not be worn
  • Training Shoes are not allowed

LOUNGE RULES

  • Footwear worn on the golf course is not permitted.
  • No dogs allowed.
  • Any person under the age of 12 must vacate the lounge by 7.00 p.m.
